Students interested in financial data/transactions, trading of economic worth, etc. should choose a career in commerce. Once they have completed Class 12, many students think about majoring in commerce. There are many options available to students who are interested in pursuing a career in commerce.

Candidates have the option of enrolling in the commerce programme at the undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG), diploma, and PhD levels. Aspirants can choose from UG-level courses in commerce including BCom, BBA, CA, CS, BBA LLB, BBM, and BSc. Steps to being a top Software Engineer

Step 1: Class 10: You need to finish class 10 board exams with very good grades to be eligible to get admissions into a good school that has reputation of producing high number of students succeeding in top engineering entrance examinations.

Here you have two paths to complete engineering graduate degree.

5 year diploma

  • 5 year Diploma
  • Class 11-12 followed by Undergraduate Degree

Step 2.A: Diploma: To take this course, you need to have completed class 10 from a recognized board like CBSE or State board. Only those students who scored at least 50% marks in class 10 are eligible for this program. The course takes 3 years to complete and teaches you basic concepts of software development, algorithms, programming practices, techniques, and programming languages.

Step 2.B1: Class 12: you need to have completed class 12 with science stream including Physics and Maths and scored at least 60% marks from a recognized board. However, you should prioritize doing very well in engineering entrance exams to be eligible to get admissions into a good engineering colleges. You should aim for colleges like IITs, NITs, BITs, and other such reputed colleges which have reputation of producing high number of computer / IT engineers getting in to top Software companies.

Step 2.B2: Undergraduate Degree in Software Engineering: To earn a B.Tech degree in Software Engineering, Not many colleges in India offer B.Tech in Software Engineering, most colleges offer B.Tech in CSE or B.Tech in IT. The course takes 4 years to complete and covers advanced courses in computer science / IT / software engineering.

BTech admission process may vary from state to state for local colleges. For national-level colleges, the most popular procedure is to clear the nationwide JEE (Joint Entrance Examination), which happens in two parts – Mains and Advanced. Different states also have their exams.

Step 3: Postgraduate Course in Software Engineering:

To pursue this course, you need to have completed a B.Tech degree in Software Engineering. The degree you can earn after completing the program is either M.Tech in Software Engineering or M.Sc Software Engineering. To get into M.Tech in Software Engineering, you must first complete your B.Tech and then clear the GATE exam. The M.Tech program teaches you about software testing methodologies, analysis, and design, software architecture, database design, and applications.

Focus on your Academics:

  • Finish your Class 10 and 12 education with good grades and focus on subjects related to mathematics, Physics and chemistry. This will help you lay a strong foundation for your future studies and career.
  • You should try to score well in all your semester exams during BE/BTech. Many reputed software companies put a cut-off threshold at 80%-85% during entry level hiring process.

Prepare well for Big Tests:

  • Build a strong foundation: You should be very thorough on the fundamentals and be able to solve the problems quickly in mathematics, physics, and chemistry.

  • Gain hands-on experience by coding in one or two programming languages. Python and Javascripts are great for this. They have huge demand and are easy to learn.
  • Prioritize doing well in boards and entrance exams over Just 1 summer vacation is enough to learn 1 language
  • There are many free resources available to learn these languages on your own. Simple google search will reveal free and often best sources to learn these languages online.
  • Once you master the basics, you should pursue internships, personal projects, coding bootcamps, or contributing to open-source projects.
  • Consider obtaining professional certifications in software development, such as those offered by Microsoft, Oracle, and Amazon, to demonstrate your expertise and skills to potential employers.

Networking:

  • You must have a mentor. A good mentor is one who is an 10-15 years senior to you and generally successful in the field where you want to make a mark.
